Our Finances
Transparency and accountability are two core values SAFE holds dear for managing its finances. Since SAFE in entirely run by a volunteer Board or Steering Committee, it has no paid employees and expenses that allows SAFE to dedicate all its resources and donations almost entirely to sponsor refugee families and support their settlement process during their first twelve months or arriving. It has been critical for SAFE to maintain a small buffer to meet emergency needs that emerges during the settlement process and not covered by the sponsorship money.
SAFE is a registered charity and is able to issue tax receipts. IRCC has designated SAFE the status of category A SAH, after the external audit undertaken in 2022, and providing minimal oversight due to its robust financial and settlement systems. SAFE does spend a small amount of resources for paying for expenses such as the government registration fee, SAH association fee, bank charges, producing annual financial reports and filing with CRA and charity commission. All annual Financial Reports are available for download and review.
